Assalamu Alaikum Everyone,

I'm doing a personal Challenge to Climb Mount Snowden                 with Ummah Welfare Trust.

Mount Snowden is the highest mountain in Wales and is Great Britain's highest mountain south of the Scottish Highlands.

The Cause:

Ummah Centre for the Disabled

Disabled people in Pakistan have traditionally received little support. Most are left to live a life confined to the home, ignored by their families and neglected by the rest of society.

'Seek help among your weak ones, for you are given provision and help only because of the weak amongst you.' - Sunan Abi Dawud

In 2010 Ummah Welfare Trust established a rehabilitation centre for disabled persons. The centre, situated in Rawalpindi, was specifically designed to empower the disabled people of Pakistan by providing workshops and teaching skills.

Under the pressure of users, the centre grew to the point where UWT realised the scale of the problem was far greater than originally thought. Larger and more functional premises were needed to deal with the needs of Pakistan's disabled.

Ummah Welfare Trust now aims to build the Ummah Centre for the Disabled; a beacon for the disabled community of Pakistan. It will provide unmatched care for 250 people inshaAllah, empowering them with the skills to help them lead normal lives.

The Centre will have a library, a science laboratory and an ICT laboratory. Classrooms and curriculums will be tailored to the needs of each resident.

A unique aim is to make the centre self-reliant. The vocational wings of the centre will comprise of a carpentry and welding workshop, computer repairs laboratory, stitching and textiles unit and a packing workshop.

By teaching the residents of the centre a skill or livelihood, the centre can in'sha Allah generate enough revenue to become self-sustaining, without the need for 'Lillah' donations.

The project will cost £1.2 million. (This amount includes the capital costs and the costs needed to support all of the residents)
