Story
Dear Friends and Family,
I hope you are having an amazing summer! If you have a little bit of time, please take time to read this page and support me in raising funds for the nonprofit I work for, Everybody Wins! Vermont-- a mentoring program that fosters a love of reading and builds long-lasting relationships between elementary students and caring mentors.
Between August 15 and August 29th, I will be participating in Everybody Wins! Race Around Vermont. The 21 schools we serve throughout Vermont and NH have a distance of 307 miles between them. My goal is to cover that distance, and more, by reading (1 page = a mile) and by increasing my daily step count by at least 1500 steps per day (avg about 2000 right now). This is the organization's biggest campaign of the year to raise funds for our reading programs across Vermont. I have an enthusiastic goal of raising $500 in the next two weeks. If you know me, you know I fall asleep when I read and that I have arthritis is my knees but I know I can reach these goals to help ensure this program continues long into the futurte.
Over the last year and a half, I have had the pleasure of being the site coordinator at my local elementary school. It has been an honor and a privilege to match dedicated and caring mentors with children in my community who want the support of another adult in their lives. I had only just begun my new job when the pandemic hit and this incredible organization quickly went into action and we turned an in-person mentoring program into a virtual program nearly overnight! Despite the turmoil of the year, I was able to witness the joy, friendship, and love that develops between a child and their mentor. A computer screen didn’t stop them from reading books, drawing pictures, laughing, or playing board games together! Please help me to meet my goal so that this program may continue for every child who wants a reading mentor!
