London Landmarks Half Marathon 2022 · 3 April 2022 ·
Kate and I will be running the London landmark half marathon on the 3rd April for Tushinde Children's Trust. It will be my first half marathon after getting into running properly in lockdown, and Kate will be dragging me around, being the seasoned marathon runner she is! Training is currently going well and we are doing training runs together. We both wanted a challenge to aim for and this distance will definitely be a challenge but if we can raise money for this amazing charity while doing something we enjoy that is a bonus.
Tushinde Children's Trust is a charity working in Nairobi's Mathare and Kiambiu informal settlements with over 350 vulnerable children. They provide tailored family care and education to children from the poorest families in the Nairobi slums. They help families stay together by sharing the financial burden. Tushinde does this by raising money for the sponsorship of children, supporting schools as well as raising money for specific projects.
£167 Can pay for a toddler to attend day care for a year. The child has a safe space to play, morning porridge and a nutritious cooked lunch, whilst their mother goes out to find work.
£35 Could purchase an emergency food parcel for a family in need.
£25 Can provide a family in crisis with a social worker for a month - to help get the children in school, secure tenancy and access health care.
£60 Could be used as a business start up grant for a family who have stabilised and are ready to leave the programme
£100 can fund a teacher training day - where our team work with the teachers from 17 schools to look at issues of child protection and safeguarding.
