Walk for ME · 20 May 2017

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into ME/CFS. Our funded research suggests that in excess of 400,000 people in the UK have ME/CFS but it is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We invest in the best research we can globally.

Story

You may or may not know that I have been unwell for over a year and as a result, have had to give up my A level studies. I have been diagnosed with 4 different illnesses, one of them being Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), which is also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). This is a debilitating neurological illness which affects many people in the UK and it has left me virtually house bound. The cause of CFS/ME is still unknown.

May 8-14th this year is ME/CFS awareness week. As part of this, ME Research UK are asking for people to get involved with the fundraising event 'Walk for ME'. I would like to get involved and want to ask for your help and support. The idea is that my family and friends do a sponsored walk on my behalf as I cannot walk long distances.

My parents and grandparents will be doing a 10k walk in the countryside around Canterbury on 20th May, and I'd love for you to get involved in one of three ways.

1. Please consider sponsoring this walk. All money raised will go to ME Research UK, who fund scientific investigation into the causes, consequences and treatment of ME.

2. Please join my family on this walk. I would really love it if as many people as possible would consider doing this walk. That way, together we can raise more money and raise awareness.

3. If you'd love to walk, but are unable to join my walk, maybe you could do your own sponsored event.

Thank you for all your help and support,

Love Molly xx
