Hello👋🏼My name is Molly, and I will be taking part in the 5k race for life in Exeter on the 19th of July. Along with raising money for cancer research, I have decided to raise money for ‘Alzheimer’s Society’ as this charity is very close to my heart. I will be dedicating my run to my amazing Nanny Rita, all the lovely people that I have the pleasure to look after at my place of work, and everyone out there who is living with Alzheimer’s.
I am very lucky that I still have my nanny here with me today, even though every day is a battle for her with Alzheimer’s. She was diagnosed 6 years ago with dementia, and then a couple of years later we found out that she had vascular dementia. This type of dementia also affects around 180,000 people in the UK. The hardest thing about Alzheimer's is watching it eat your loved ones away and watching who they once were slowly fade away. Even though this disease is a part of nanny’s life, she certainly does not let it bring her spirits down. She is the life and soul of every party, and if there’s a dance floor, you know that you will always find her there! She also has the most wicked sense of humour and is always making everyone laugh with the things she comes out with! I have no idea how much time I have left with my nanny, so my aim is to make her proud until the end of her lifetime.
Dementia is the UK's biggest health and social care crisis.Your donation will fund vital support and life-changing research to give help and hope to my nanny and so many others living with dementia. Let’s do this! 💜
