JLP Property & Development Alpine Cycle Challenge, 15th & 16th Sept 2017 · 15 September 2017

Group Partners of the John Lewis Partnership have elected Friendship Works as their Charity of the Year for 2016-18.

Story

At Monaghans we always like to go the extra mile with our clients and on Friday 15th September two of our dedicated staff will be joining a group of Property & Development Partners from our valued long-term client John Lewis, and going an extra 197km in support of their charity of the year, Friendship Works.

Part of the national charity Family Action, Friendship Works is a children’s mentoring service dedicated to improving the emotional well-being, resilience and life chances of disadvantaged children and young people in London, through long-term mentoring. Their friendships provide children with one-to-one support through a trusted adult to talk to and access to new opportunities through regular outings with their mentors. This crucial support allows the children to enjoy being a child and ultimately enables them to reach their full potential.

Inspired by this worthy cause, Monaghans' Dariush Ghorbani and Gareth Trevor will be joining an intrepid group of fundraisers tackling a brutal 2-day Alpine cycling challenge covering a 197km route similar to the famous La Marmotte cyclosportive. Taking in five legendary Tour de France summits, the team will start with a 31km climb over the Col de la Croix de Fer (2067m), ride back over the Col du Glandon (1924m) and up the 3.8km Lacets de Montvernier (787m) on the way over to the 16km climb over the Col du Telegraphe (1568m) to end day one in Valloire. Day two will start with a 22 km climb over the Col du Galibier (2646 m) and then ride to the infamous 16km climb and 21 bends to Alpe d'Huez (1845m).
