Story

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for coming to this page and please bear with me as I ramble here, although as you know me I am sure you are well used to it!

On the 29th August this year I head off to Malawi for 10 days! For those who know me very well this is shocking given my penchant for Ideal Home magazine and my clear distaste for anything that has not been sprayed several times with Dettox!

This trip coincides with my 30th birthday which is also in August - I can't believe I am 30! I am going on the trip with 10 or so other people, most of whom are of student age so I will def. feel old! (by the way if you normally buy me a birthday present please donate to this trip instead - ta!)

Again, nearly all of those who know me will know about my Christian faith and so to mention something...

Over the past couple of years I really feel God has been speaking to me about injustice - God's view of injustice has been made clear to me and His call to 'dance upon injustice'.  The root of social injustice is selfishness, individually or collectively our selfishness is the cause of all social injustice.

I get angry at Christians professing a faith but failing to respond to God's call to help the poor.  I hear stories all the time from friends who are not Christians and who observe 'Christians' at church on Sunday yet ignoring poverty and injustice all around them.  God hates that kind of pretence and we do dishonour to His name each and every time we turn our back on someone in need.

Don't get me wrong I am far, far, far from perfect, all too guilty of enjoying a comfortable lifestyle, of trying to justify to myself why I am walking past someone begging in the street rather than stopping to help. Some time ago I asked God to soften my heart to these issues. I have always been known in my family as a 'hard hearted Annie'! He has done some preliminary work in that regard but I know he has a lot to teach me through serving even this short time in Africa.

My work will be alongside the Bible Society in Malawi and we will be working alongside other humanitarian agencies.

We will be doing things like:

Spending time in an AIDS Orphanage, helping in a feeding programme, playing games with the children - and providing Children's Bibles.

Visiting mission hospitals to give material help and share Bibles chatting with those suffering from HIV/AIDS to try and bring some hope and comfort to them.

Please help me to help those in Malawi by giving generously.  As I am staying in the homes of local people apart from my airfare all money raised will go directly to help the people! (I noticed there is a charity statement saying it reserves the right to give to general purposes but I can assure you this will not be happening - it will go directly to helping with my trip)

Thank you so so much!

I appreciate that not all who will read this will share my faith and I thank you in particular for supporting me in this trip and/or even reading this!

Thank you!“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: ‘He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.’"2 Corinthians 9:6-9

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Scottish Bible Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Below is not part of any 'pitch' - just a few verses for anyone interested.

“Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.”Deuteronomy 15:10

“Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.”Psalm 41:1

“He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done"Proverbs 19:17
"A poor man's field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away. "Prov 13:23
"Now what does the Lord require of you, but to act justly, to seek mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."Micah 6:8
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours in the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.”Luke 6:20-21

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.”Proverbs 31:8

“Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong, learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.”Isaiah 1:16-17

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?”Isaiah 58:6

"If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. "1John.4:20.

"I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies.
Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.
But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream! " Amos.5:21

"Now what does the Lord require of you, but to act justly, to seek mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."Micah 6:8
