Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a large, multi-campus institution based in Perth, WA. We’re proud of our strong community ties and vibrant research culture - donations to ECU can support anything from student scholarships to world-class research, making a real difference in our communities.

Story

Nathan was born with half a heart (hypo plastic left heart syndrome). He miraculously survived, only to be struck down with infantile scoliosis. His scoliosis is a very rare, life threatening condition. His spine is curving and twisting, which has caused high blood pressure in Nathan's lungs.

We were not informed of a treatment that may have helped Nathan to grow straight. Instead, the scoliosis caused irreversible damage to Nathan's primary heart condition that he fought so hard to survive. We have been told to enjoy the time we have with our son.

Determined, I decided to study at ECU (bachelor of science; master of science) to find a cure for Nathan. The money raised will fund a team of researchers at ECU who will conduct genetic research into the cause of scoliosis.

This research has the potential to help children all around the world with infantile scoliosis. Identifying dynamic biomarkers can lead to earlier detection, earlier treatment, and thus, better health outcomes.
