Obviously running the marathon would be something that takes a great deal of consideration, determination and preparation. Can’t quite work out how they’ve accepted me but I’m hoping to do everyone proud and finish on the day.
I've even gone for the sweet picture of my daughter, Chandana & son Ashwin to encourage the donations (Changed for one of me & Ashwin). I promise to put up a picture of myself soon (once I've lost the double chin!)(Double chin won't go!)
Your support will keep me going. Please give generously to support the excellent work of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.
UPDATE1:Here comes the first update. I had got up to running 20 miles per week (a couple of 6 milers & 4 milers) but then various throat & chest infections struck & stopped me from running for 3 weeks. I've just managed to get back to running this week but just a couple of steady 3 milers.
UPDATE2: 10 March 2008 The date is getting closer. I am running some longer runs, but they are taking their toll! Sunday I managed 16 miles, at about 10 min/mile, but am a little sore now! I was hoping to get in a 18 mile and 20 mile before the big day, but I am off on a family skiing holiday on Saturday (altitude training!), and the day after we get back I have to go off to Singapore (hot weather training!) for work, so that may make this difficult
UPDATE3: 8 April 2008 So this is it! The count down hasn’t gone as well as hoped. I managed a 20 miler just before getting on the plane to Singapore, but came back with a throat infection which I’m still trying to shake off. Running in the snow covered French mountains was really good, but seems ages ago now. I’ve only got a few days left now, so I am just resting my legs & keeping my fingers crossed. My mate Rob Farnell took me round the course (by car) on Sunday – boy it’s a long way! The next entry will be how I did. Again a big thanks to all of you that have supported me so far
LAST UPDATE 14 April 2008 What a day! Everything started really well, the weather was perfect, the crowds were overwhelming. I was on pace, feeling comfortable up until 16 miles and then my right knee started playing up, by mile 18 I needed pain killers and a rub and then at mile 20 I couldn’t push off from the right leg without shooting pains up the back of my knee, so the last 6 miles were a hobble. I was determined to run across the finish line so I mustered everything, locked my right knee and went for it. 4:53 was the time.
High Point - crossing Tower Bridge, the crowds roaring, feeling as if I could run forever.
Low Point - being overtaken in the last 6 miles by a fully costumed womble!
Today I am sore, mainly muscular & that right knee. My feet are in perfect condition, all toe nails in place, no blisters.
To all of you that supported me, a heart felt thank you. You guys that were there on the day cheering and shouting for me kept me going and all but brought tears to my eyes.
