Hi Folks,
Our team consists of 3 of us, my good friends Morgan Cook and our illustrious leader Major Cliff McAuley. We have been close friends for over 30 years as we first met and served together in the Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) in 1991 and although we drifted for a large part of our lives we still remained very close friends. Unfortunately on this occasion only Morgan and myself will be participating in the challenge as the big fellow has been fighting cancer for the past 9 months. This inspired us to do something to challenge ourselves and hopefully at the same time raise some money for good causes. It was also motivated by the thought that Morgan was 50 last year and I'm 50 this year so let's do it whilst we still can.
Morgan decided that it would be a good idea to climb the highest mountain in Europe, obviously me being a bit gungho agreed to it not giving it too much thought and with very little knowledge of what lies ahead, "its only a Hill". How wrong was I, it's a very physically demanding and challenging mountain. But none the less challenge accepted. We felt that with the correct preparation and commitment we could take on the challenge this year whilst still in our prime, we have been training for the past 6 months and feel that we are ready to give this a go. However, not being too foolish and to give ourselves the best chance we have signed up with a very well respected mountain guide company that specialise specifically with Mont Blanc.
Whilst this is all great and a bit of an adventure for 2 overzealous teenagers (midlife crisis) the important part of this is that we have decided to raise funds for some charities, Beatson Cancer care as Cliff and his wife have had some very personnel dealings with them and also MND Scotland as I have witnessed through a very close family friend the exceptional care and support that they provide. Both of these charities undertake fantastic work and provide essential support for not only the patients but also the friends and the families that have had to endure these hard fights.
So please help support us as we would like to raise monies for both causes.
Thank you for taking the time to read this page and we really appreciate any support offered.
I will do my best to update this page and hopefully provide some positive progress on our wee challenge.
Hi Folks, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has taken the time and effort to support us financially and also mentally for the causes that we have chosen and also everyone that has encouraged us with the kind messages and words during this challenge and fundraising adventure. Morgan and I summited Mont Blanc on the 17th of June with a great sense of achievement. Both of us agree that this was a far greater challenge than either of us expected. This was physically and mentally tough especially now as both of us are now over the hill, (50 years young). However the real motivating factor was for us to do this to raise some cash and to try and help and encourage all of those people that are enduring the real fight against cancer to keep pushing and continue fighting the fight.
As stated from the start our team consist of the 3 of us Morgan and I out for a stroll up a hill and the general fighting the fight. I am pleased to report that after we completed the summit, literally 2 hours after it we got a message from Big Cliff to say that his treatment had been a success and he was given the all clear and he had now been discharged from oncology. Wonderfull news.
Thanks for the support xxx
