Story
For 2012, Moorhouse will again be supporting City Gateway and raising money for a very specific project that the Charity is undertaking:
Womens creche:
Background: Tower Hamlets has the highest rate of child poverty in London, and the second highest in the UK (Child Wellbeing Index 2009), with 66% of children living in households with an income lower than 60% of the national median, and 52% eligible for free school meals (Campaign to End Child Poverty 2011). Our Women’s Project aims to increase parental employment and access to services, equipping them to lift their children out of poverty. By providing a free onsite crèche, mothers of 0-s are able to access our training and employment programmes. Our crèche is in need of refurbishment in order to provide a safe, educational and fun space for children of vulnerable parents to develop.
Resources needed: Furniture; including chairs and tables, Equipment; including buggy shelter, nappy bin, and motor-sensory kit and Heuristic play materials
Outcomes (over 1 year):
- 100 parents and young people access training and employment as a result of free childcare services
- 150 children benefiting from crèche/childcare/early years education provision
- 16 economically excluded women and young people achieving Level 2 qualifications in childcare as a result of placements in the crèche
