Story

A big group of friends are running various tough running races around the country to raise money to help eradicate Pancreatic Cancer, which tragically claimed the life of our great friend Harry Mootoosamy in October 2014.

Your donation will directly fund innovative research to help make a breakthrough on prevention and treatment of Pancreatic Cancer.

Because it doesn't usually give rise to any signs or symptoms in the early stages -  it's often diagnosed late, reducing the chances of being able to kick it. The survival rate is only 4% and it receives less than 1% of cancer research spend.

Pancreatic Cancer UK is the only national charity fighting cancer on all fronts - support, information, campaigning and research. Their goal is to double the survival rates within 5 years.

Simon and Marianne's Story

Simon Lodge:

As you know, participating in marathons and anything relating to them is the very antithesis of me…

Earlier this week, Harry, a close friend of getting on for 30 years passed away after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer only 6 months ago.  He leaves a beautiful wife, three gorgeous children, a sister, mum, dad and a remarkable number of friends behind.
This is a horrendous disease.  It destroys families, has the lowest survival rates of any of the cancers, and research into it is under-funded.  So despite my natural and perfectly sensible aversion to running any distance whatsoever, I have been persuaded that, due to the sheer humour that people appear to find in the idea of me having to run 13 miles, I am going to run the St Albans half marathon on June 14th2015.

But, this comes at a price.  You need to sponsor me!  And you need to dig deep into those pockets, because I’m doing this to raise as much money as I possibly can for a really important cause. Plus, running a half marathon is not going to be a regular occurrence I can assure you, so get it while it’s hot.  You get to chuckle at my plight, I get to feel that 3 hours (let’s be honest, probably more) of incompetent athleticism has all been worthwhile.

Marianne Lodge:

I'm running the St Albans Half Marathon this year for two reasons.  I wanted to run in memory of my dear friend Harry who was so suddenly and sadly taken away from us last October.  Harry was the very embodiment of true friendship. He was a kind and true friend to me ever since I met him way back in Sixth Form and I miss him profoundly. I'm also running because I really want to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.  Throughout Harry's illness I simply could not believe a disease could be so aggressive and relentless but pancreatic cancer is just that so I'm running to try to make a difference in the fight against this sudden and devastating cancer. Any money you can donate today will be a vital contribution to this fight and a gift in memory of a wonderful man.

Laura's story

I am just doing my little bit for the cause and going to run the 5k race earlier in the morning of the half marathon. Ill be in the 'over 17 yrs category unfortunately).
I'll be aiming for 29 mins - something I haven't done for a number of years !!
Then Patrick, Ethan and Arthur will be running the children's race 1.5km straight after.
All for PCUK and in memory of our dear friend Harry.

Leilani and Ben’s story
Ben runs. Lani doesn’t. They both hate it, but Lani hates it more! However wonders will never cease. She has running gear and has now started doing timed 5ks! She is aiming to run / walk / limp the half marathon - probably some way substantially behind Ben (who won’t wait). All this in memory of our wonderfully dear, much loved friend Harry Krish. Ben is also going to cycle from London to Paris in July.

Please support us in trying to raise as much money as we can for Pancreatic Cancer UK so we can go some way in helping the research and prevention of this horrible disease and spare other families and friends the heartache of losing a loved one. So, Harry - all the runs and cycles we do this year are for you, for Asha, Taryn, Nate, Rey, your folks and your sister. You will never be forgotten. xxxx

Dom's story

Harry-Krish was a guy with an amazing lust for life and effortless magnetism, which made it easy and appealing being his friend. Although I was far from his closest friend, he always showed interest in what I was doing and carried a smile on his face.  That is why it was all the more tough coming to terms with Harry's sudden illness and death and that's why I want to do something, no matter how small, to remember him and help raise money for the charity that fights against the cruel illness he suffered.

Marianne Ryan's story

I don’t run. I throw my feet out. I get back and hip pain... excuses, excuses. It’s time to get off my backside and do something to help make a difference. I am so deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend and Kid Gloves singer, Harry Mootoosamy. He was such a wonderful man with the most infectious grin imaginable. He will be missed by so many but never forgotten. I am going to run 13.1 miles in his honour and help raise invaluable funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK in the process. This is no walk in the park, it is a serious personal challenge for me, so please dig deep and donate what you can to help eradicate this awful disease.

Anna-Ruby, Danny, Myli and Seth's story

For a gorgeous little brother and uncle, I have no words to explain how we feel but we must do what we can to help make sure that people do not continue to suffer the pain of this disease. You would laugh at the though of me doing a half marathon. you will be by my side always

Gita Ramdharry-Jackson and Kenny Jackson

Harry was my (Gita's) childhood friend and "other-little-brother". Memories of us all dressed up acting out plays for our parents, water fights in the New Forest, Liverpool FC , music and dancing in our teens then watching him marry my other friend Asha with three beautiful children to follow. Kenny never runs, but we decided that huffing and puffing 13 miles is nothing compared to what people with this dreadful disease endure. We will run for Harry's memory, for Asha, for Ruby and for the little Mootoos xx
