Story
More Than A Game FC has been founded to participate in the Tackle Africa London Football Marathon to raise much needed funds to support communities affected by HIV in Africa.
Our eight player squad is built with players from Great Britain, Cameroon, Latvia and Burundi. All of which have played or coached football to a high standard.
Team members include:
Martin Beeson, Justin Walley, Warren Chebby, Emmanuel Wirdzem, Sam Pasquale, Martins Akmentins, Will Ritchie, +1 more player TBC
Tackle Africa uses the power and popularity of football to deliver HIV education to young people on football pitches across the continent. Specifically, Tackle Africa train African coaches to deliver fun, engaging football drills to young people in their clubs and communities. Tackle Africa do this because many young people in Africa love football, but their location and their age means that they are at high risk of contracting HIV.
On Saturday June 17, More Than A Game FC will be one of 64 teams competing in a football super tournament. Teams will compete in 6-A-Side football matches for 12 hours non stop, this will be extremely challenging, mentally and physically for all players involved.
Two of our players - Martin Beeson and Justin Walley have been selected to travel to Africa later this year, where they will both volunteer to coach with Tackle Africa.
You can read regular blogs about our efforts on: www.morethanagame.info and on the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/1morethanagame
Each player hopes to raise a minimum of £220, with the first £20 coming from each player's own pocket.
