Story
On 17th March, 2019 I will be running the Bath Half Marathon in order to raise money and awareness for Rape Crisis.
Rape Crisis offer support to victims and provide resources to help people heal. Every year in England and Wales, approximately 85,000 women and 12,000 men are raped. Only around 15% of those who experience sexual violence report to the police due to fear, stigma and victim shaming. 20% of women have experienced some type of sexual assault since the age of 16. Approximately 90% of those who are raped know the perpetrator prior to the offence.
I have grown up hearing my friends stories, experienced abuse myself and felt powerless. I have now made the decision to fight back for myself and my fellow victims.
One of the hardest things for victims is living with a sense of shame and vulnerability. I am so happy to be giving back to Rape Crisis who help so many people every year to grow and to encourage the message that it is never your fault.
We will not suffer in silence anymore.
