Hello! I'm Morgan Pandolfi. In a community, it is important for young children to have access to a musical outlet. My Girl Scout Gold Award project will better my community’s access to music and inform families about the benefits of music. In young children, music helps develop memory and increases brain development. Music also engages children’s brains while stimulating neural pathways associated with higher forms of intelligence such as abstract thinking, empathy, and math. It is also an example of aural art, and young children are aural learners because of early ear development. I believe that music is a key brain exercise for young children, and I think the addition of an instrument to a local park would be a good way of providing access. My project will install an outdoor xylophone from Freenotes Harmony Park, along with an informational sign, in Bernel Road Park. My website for the project will also provide information about playing the instrument and the benefits of music. For more information, visit www.musictakesflight.com
