The Wickers Charity supporting eight - eighteen year old's in Hackney. Our aim is to reduce gang related crime in East London by providing positive role models, learning opportunities, recreational activities and educational workshops. To demonstrate they can lead a more meaningful life.”

Story

On Thursday 16th February, Henry Smith (61) & Daniel Harris (39) set off on the expedition of a lifetime - to climb the second highest Seven Summit of the world, Mount Aconcagua.

It has grueling weather conditions that can drop below -20 degrees Celsius! The mountain recently saw one Brit have a leg amputated earlier this year.

The climb usually takes around 20 days, but Henry and Daniel aim to complete the climb in just 12 days! They are currently going through a vigorous training schedule and sleeping in a climatisation tent in preparation for the expedition.

Some days the conditions are so tough they will only be able to climb less than a mile throughout the whole day. On their summit day they will reach an elevation of 6,959 meters.

Why are they doing this?

Henry and Daniel have taken up this challenge to raise vital funds for The Wickers charity - https://wickers.org.uk/

The Wickers Charity launched in 2019 to tackle knife crime in East London. With the help of donations, they have gone from running weekly football sessions to reaching over 5,000 disadvantaged youths through mentoring, knife crime awareness education, after school activities & employability programmes.

Today, The Wickers are a trusted partner to 15 East London Schools, Social Services, the Met Police and over 60 organizations & businesses.

This past year The Wickers have delivered 20 employability workshops in partnership with local businesses. This has led directly to 15 disadvantaged young people gaining employment.

‘Our goal is simple; we want to divert high risk, vulnerable children & young people away from knife crime. We do this by empowering them to make better decisions, help them to understand what they are passionate about and unlock opportunities for them.’ Barrie Laslett, CEO

Henry & Daniel are asking for your help in raising vital funds for The Wickers, so they can continue their great work! The Wickers are a non-profit organization, who rely purely on donations, grants, and corporate sponsorship to continue.

Henry, Dan and The Wickers are extremely grateful for any donation.

This is definitely not a challenge for the faint-hearted!
