Story
Richard and Jason of Rightwire Ltd are taking on the Pompeiior Bust challenge of driving a car worth scrap value from the Isle of Wight toPompeii.
The car which fell into this category happened to be a 1991 Austin Montego, which had not been on the road since 2008. Yes, we are taking the British car with a reputation for unreliability to the effect that in the 1980’s breakdown patrols named the hard shoulder – “Montego Bay”, and we are now driving this 28 year old veteran to POMPEII in ITALY!!
The boys will be camping, wearing fancy dress, driving a MOUNTBATTEN themed car and probably performing a whole host of roadside repairs along the way, as well as challenges all to raise money for the fantastic staff and patients at The Mountbatten Hospice. A cause very close to the staff at Right wire’s heart. Right Wire has sponsored the challenge by funding the rally entry costs, car and its repairs to enable an MOT. We have also been lucky enough to have support from other island business who also support this truly worthwhile cause.
The rally starts in Cornwall, where the rally entrants will
meet, then to Plymouth to catch the overnight ferry. After the 10-hour long ferry crossing we arrive in Roscoff. This is where we will find our destination for that day along with the challenges. Challenges provide us with POINTS and clues as to where we will be staying. In order to win the rally, it is not about getting to Pompeii first, it’s about the points you pick up along the way (that is if the Montego makes it all the way).
Points are awarded for an array of challenges including points for car theme and yes, FANCY DRESS! The winner has an additional donation made to their cause and we will do everything we can to bring it home to Mountbatten. Every night we will find out what the next day entails, obviously giving little time to plan. Each of the 5 days brings new
challenges and new destinations. We are looking forward to raising as much money as we can for such a worthwhile cause.
