1 in 10 people over 65 is living with this degenerative disease. About one-third of people age 85 and older (32 percent) have Alzheimer's disease. Of the estimated 5.8 million people who have Alzheimer's disease, the vast majority (80 percent) are age 75 or older.
Dementia describes different brain disorders that trigger a loss of brain function. These conditions are all usually progressive and eventually severe. Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia, affecting between 50 and 75 per cent of those diagnosed.
Other types of dementia include; vascular dementia affecting up to 20 per cent of those diagnosed, frontotemporal dementia affecting 2 per cent and dementia with Lewy bodies between 10 and 15 per cent.
Symptoms of dementia include memory loss, confusion and problems with speech and understanding. Dementia is a terminal condition.
This subject is very close to my heart, if I can contribute and do my part in raising awareness and funding towards research into this awful disease then I will do my very best.
You can contribute as little or as much as you like, even if you just want to read my story.
Thankyou.
Every little helps
