Mount Snowdon - July · 16 July 2021 ·
Our story as told by my dad, Peter.
On 18th June 2021, myself, son and daughter will be climbing Snowdon in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
My mum was officially diagnosed with Alzheimers last year and as a family we experienced how devastating this illness is for the person involved and how we, first hand got to experience the impact it can cause on family members.
The confusion and loss of short term memory for the people suffering from this awful illness is not always understood by those nearest and dearest as they witness the drastic changes in those they love. It is heartbreaking for all those concerned.
My mum as a result of this diagnosis and it’s related symptoms has now entered her “forever home”. It has been very hard for me and I am sure that all loved ones of those that go into care feel a certain amount of guilt, although there was no alternative in my mum’s case as she requires 24 hour nursing care.
At least my mum seems very happy in her new home and I know she is safe and very well looked after.
When my family saw this walk advertised we had no hesitation in signing up for it. Any donation, however small, will go towards hopefully finding a cure for this dreadful illness.
If anyone could contribute to this worthwhile cause it would be much appreciated and I would like to thank everyone in advance for any donation you can make. The three of us are walking as a team and hope to raise £900 for this worthwhile cause.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
