Hi.

My mother, Vivien was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Vascular dementia 4 years ago. It’s clear now that she had suffered for some time with this disease without being aware. 

After diagnosis,  Shelley and I moved back to live with her so that we could support and care for her. Earlier this year she reached a stage where she no longer benefitted from home support and required full time care. The hardest single decision of my life. But the right one. She’s happy again, looked after and cared for. Since diagnosis I have concentrated solely on her happiness and safety. I don’t have the words to make sense of what the last 4 years have been for my family. 

Now she no longer lives with us I have felt helpless,  so this in part is me trying to take back some control. I cannot help mum. She won’t get better.  But I can try and help future victims by doing something small to help in the fight to prevent this disease.
