Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It's an unfortunate fact that, today, most people are touched by cancer in one way or another.
Cancer runs in my family and my sister, aunt and grandmother all battled the illness. I also have several good friends who have overcome cancer or are still fighting it.
I was introduced to Harbour Cancer Support by my step-mother Hazel who volunteers her time to the charity. They are a fantastic group of people offering information, counselling and support to people affected by cancer. Trained staff and volunteers are always available to welcome anyone to the centre. They are there to sit and listen when wanted, help in finding information, explain the services on offer and refer to a therapist when appropriate. They also have services directed specially towards the children of cancer sufferers. You can simply drop in to the centre for a coffee and meet and befriend others touched by the illness or benefit from one of the complimentary therapies on offer.
Sadly the centre was vandalised last year causing thousands of pounds worth of damage and also closing the centre for some time. The volunteers who work there have picked themselves up from this setback and rebuilt, getting the centre reopened as quickly as possible to keep helping those who rely on it.
I'm running my first marathon in London on April 21 2013 and I really want to raise as much as I can for the charity so they can continue to carry out the fantastic work they do and rebuild from the set back last year.
