Story
I finally achieved a running goal I set myself 3 years ago and that was to get earn a qualifying time to run the London Marathon (40-44 male under 3 hours 5 minutes).
I have been running for many years but I think it all kicked off when Lee Davies asked me over and over again to run the Oxford Half in 2016, from there my joy for running really took off. It wasn’t long before I signed up to a few more halves and then decided I should up my game and take on a full marathon. Tenby 2018 was my first official marathon. After Tenby in 2019 I completed Abingdon in 3hrs 5mins which made me consider the London Marathon.
I didn’t want to just get lucky with the London Marathon ballot system I wanted to earn my place and get a good for age qualification which meant running a marathon under 3 hours to stand any chance of making it.
Very long story short and over 3 years of training, failing, changing my diet, lifestyle and finally completing a sub 3 hour marathon I am about to take on one of the Worlds most famous marathons.
I am running London for Guts UK, it is the only UK charity funding research into the digestive system from top to tail; the gut, liver and pancreas.
Sadly I have lost friends and have friends who are or who have suffered from these issues. Research shows that 58% of people are embarrassed to talk about their digestive condition or symptoms. 51%
of people delay seeking advice for their symptoms for over 6 months.
It’s time we got to grips with our understanding of guts and with your support we can, thank you.
