Story
Mr Lu passed away this morning Friday 29th June 2018 at 6am. He is now at peace.
Mr Lu
Work and talk work and talk
Was also in his par 5 walk
Like Linford Christy he was off
Following his drive before I’d got my ball aloft
16 I stepped up into his van
A smile so wide I could eat a frying pan
For that was the day a dream come true
My first day at work with my Dad, that’s you!
He took me in to Cadbury’s lab
Told me to wire wool and oil grab
Three weeks alone in that place
Oiling acres of wood until it shined in my face
The same was true with the bricks
By now I knew the old buggers tricks
He dropped me off at a site
And left me to my 10 Tonne plight
The bean deck yard was a special job
For which he assembled a special mob
Porky, me, Gary and him
We set to work with a grin
Truck after truck of concrete mix
Arrived on time from half past six
By three it was all down
Then the rain started, we almost drown
Brush and broom went so fast
I thought that day was my last
Out of the Dentist chair he shot
Sprinted down in bib and smock, Which in truth he just plain forgot
Later a brick dropped past pipes and me
And soon a geezer I could see
It hit a valve and out water came, all HE said was ‘what a shame’
The bean deck job was only training
As inside the factory it was
now raining
Out with brushes once again
I remember those days with joy and pain
But there was a softer side
I can say about my Dad with pride
He would work all day on an old ladies garage
Charge her a fiver a tea and a sandwich
Ohhw-do Mon, he used to say
To everyone he met through every day
Professional Golfer, tea lady, and me
He was the same with us all you see
More friends than a teenager has on Facebook
All I have to do is take a look
At all of you who came today
To celebrate a life well played
So when you go today from here, leave with a smile and not a tear
Later with a drink in hand
Single out one memory and quietly stand
Hold it precious with a grin, and to Mr Lu say chin chin
For my Dad, written as he lies in Chirk hospital late on 27/8/16. Graeme Lewis
