Fundraising for Alzheimer's Research UK
Story
On 22nd April 2018 I will be taking part in the Virgin Money London Marathon. Thank you to Alzheimer's Research UK, I will be running the 26.2 miles to help raise money and awareness on behalf of this fantastic charity.

Having witnessed the effects of Alzheimers first hand, this is a charity very close to both mine and my family hearts. My Grandad (Ian) has been suffering from this awful disease for several years already. We've had to watch our strong, proud, Father/Grandfather slowly lose his speech and ability to walk and function independently. He's now in a care home and has a dedicated team of carers 24 hours a day. People associate Alzheimers and dementia as a mental health issue but the reality is its much worse, it slowly shuts the brain down which, in turn, stops the body from functioning normally. There is currently a huge injustice faced by people with dementia and their carers, with many denied the support they need because the illness isn't always physical.

Over 850,000 people live with Dementia in the UK and that number is rapidly rising
* £20 pays for 1 hour of pioneering dementia research.
* £500 will cover the cost of a sensitive brain scan for a patient involved in a research study, tracking the effectiveness of new drug treatments, improving diagnosis and better understanding how diseases like Alzheimer’s wreak their havoc in the brain
* £2500 will allow researchers to buy synthetically made amyloid, to better understand this hallmark Alzheimer’s protein in the lab.
