East Cheshire Hospice provides essential care, support and compassion to local adults facing life limiting illnesses. We rely on fundraising to pay for over 80% of our daily costs, and so you can be sure your support will make a huge difference to our patients, their families and loved ones.

Story

In September 2010, my Grandma passed away at The East Cheshire Hospice after a horrible flight against cancer. Until my Grandma arrived there, I was beginning to lose faith. My Grandma didn’t receive proper care from the NHS until she arrived at this wonderful place. They treated her with the dignity she deserved and enabled us to say our goodbyes in the best environment.

But the hospice receives less than 23% of their annual costs from the Government and so has to fundraise almost £6,000 every single day of the year simply to maintain its current service. To thank them and to give other grieving families what we had, I want to raise as much money as possible. I’ve always wanted to run a marathon but have realised, training for one is very hard... so it seemed something I might be able to persuade people to sponsor me to complete! To make it a bit trickier, I’ve thrown in 2 half marathons and a 10K...all in the space of 9 months.

My husband Jon is with me for the journey as he aims to complete the marathon too, to raise money for a charity close to his heart: www.justgiving.com/mrhyattmarathon
