Many of you will know that Daisy was diagnosed with retinoblastoma when she was just 11 days old.  It was an enormous shock.  At a time when we should have been enjoying our new baby in the comfort of our home, we were in hospital and gearing up to start rounds of chemotherapy.  It was a really difficult time.  We couldn't quite believe that they would even give a tiny baby chemotherapy.  

There were numerous trips to Birmingham Children's Hospital where we met many other children and their families going through the same thing.  One thing that helped was the constant support from The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust.  They always have a support worker from the charity at the hospital on the days the retinoblastoma clinic runs.  This is really valuable to families to help support them through a very difficult time and give them the right information and assistance.

Daisy was exceptionally lucky.  She still has both eyes and what we believe is reasonable vision.  Many children with retinoblastoma lose an eye, and we know some who have lost both eyes.  This is truly horrific and something no family should have to go through.  Please dig deep so that the charity can continue to help fund research into the prevention and treatment of retinoblastoma.    

The Great North Run has been on my running bucket list for a long time.  Newcastle holds a special place in my heart as I spent many brilliant holidays there as a child visiting family.  I'm really hoping I can get a really good time in this race.  Dare I say it, I'd love to get close to 1 hour 40 minutes!  I think the hardest thing will be finding the time to get the training in with three bambinos to look after!
