Story
The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture students are carrying out a 24 hour charity Muckathon.
The Muckathon consists of spreading the muck from the college farm over 3 fields totalling an area of 60 acres. This is then cultivated and ploughed in, ready to be drilled with maize. All of this is being done over 24 hours.
As a group we will need to work out the Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium values of the manure, to understand what will be available to the crop.
The first real challenge is to secure the machinery and sponsors required in order to carry out this charity event. Our goal this year is to raise more money for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance than previous years, this is around £3,000.00, any more we can raise will be a huge bonus.
This year we have decided to challenge ourselves to carry out the Muckathon over a 24 hour period, going through the night. We plan to carry out the work in shifts of 6-8 hours each.
The event will be open for local farmers and anyone interested in the Muckathon. We will be demonstrating some of the new technologies and techniques in the Agricultural industry. This will include comparisons between machinery output on the day and any new machinery, manufacturors wish to display.
