Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Luke, Robin and I are (currently) three friends in the commercial team at Muckle LLP, and we’re doing The Three Peaks 24 Hour Challenge together in support of The Chronicle Sunshine Fund between 3 - 5 May 2019.
For those unfamiliar with the challenge, our aim is to climb the three highest mountains in the UK inside 24 hours! It’s an almighty test of our fitness and will power, not to mention our friendship.
Why?
We want to raise funds for the amazing work done by The Chronicle Sunshine Fund, a North East based charity enhancing the lives of disabled children in our region by providing equipment to suit their specialist needs.
The Sunshine Fund supports children aged 0-18 years old and can fund equipment once every 12 months for each child. The fund plays a crucial role in helping local disabled children to grow and develop with the opportunities, facilities and quality of life every child deserves.
Please dig deep
The North East has some of the highest numbers of disabled children in the UK. Many are battling to overcome complex needs and require lifelong support and access to specialist equipment that proves costly. A cost that sadly can’t always be absorbed by the NHS or Social Services. Without The Chronicle Sunshine Fund, that’s a cost that would simply not be met.
The fund needs to raise a whopping £450,000 to provide its vital services each year, and relies on the generosity of organisations, communities and individuals (lovely people like you!).
Peaked your interest yet? Yes - please give generously. If not…
The total walking distance of the challenge is only 23 miles but the total ascent is 3,064 metres. To put that into perspective, the tallest building in Europe is the Shard in London which stands at only 310 metres!
We’ll also be driving over 1,000 miles in between peaks – which should take about 15 hours. That’s alooooong time in a van with two people you spend all day working with.
We will tackle Ben Nevis (a height of 1,345 metres) first – which takes an average of 7-9 hours to complete, but we are aiming to complete in 5 hours (best start training then).
Then it’s straight down to the Lake District to climb Scafell Pike (978 metres), England's highest mountain, with a target time of 4 hours.
Finally, (with zero sleep) it’s down to Wales to tackle Mount Snowden (Yr Wyddfa!) (1085 metres) in just 4 hours.
Due to the fact that we intend to complete the challenge in 24 hours, we will be climbing much of Scafell and Mount Snowdon in the dark, with only head torches and our wits about us to make sure we don't fall off. Our ascent of Mount Snowdon won’t start until the early hours of Sunday morning!
Ambitious? Overly! But well worth it for this amazing cause and any donations, miniature or mountainous, will be extremely gratefully received. We really do appreciate the support and hopefully we will do you and The Sunshine Fund proud!
