Downe House Mufti Day · 29 January 2021

We are the UK’s leading fostering charity and the essential network for fostering. We support foster carers, fostering services and the wider sector to transform children’s lives. We work to ensure all fostered children and young people get the best possible care and experience stable family life.

Story

Hello all!

I'm Nellie and I'm in the Upper Sixth at Downe House.

On Friday the 29th of January, Downe will be having a virtual, orange-themed mufti day in aid of The Fostering Network, a charity that works with children living in foster families to help them reach the same life chances as any other child. They have been leading the fostering agenda for more than 45 years by influencing fostering policy, encouraging people to become foster carers and supporting fostering families and services.

This charity is very important to me, as I have been in foster care since 2018 (And before any of you ask, no. It is not like Tracy Beaker!).

I’m very lucky to be at a school like Downe where I
have endless opportunities to be who I want and study what I want.

But this isn’t the case for most young people in
foster care. Though I will be going to university next year (hopefully), only 12% of other young people in care actually go on to higher education!

It’s charities like The Fostering Network that fight
for not only extra educational support, but support with mental health as well.

So thank you so much for your donations!
