Story
We are committed to getting up the Mulanje Mountain Massif - and then along it - and then back down! - about 1600 metres vertical ascent, about 25km distance and then 1600metres back down!
The annual "Porters' Race" represents a huge physical challenge for us - it's significantly more work than going up & down Ben Nevis, but we'll be doing it under the hot Malawi sun and starting at 2,000 feet above sea-level. We will also be competing with some of local porters who run barefoot and manage to complete it in less than 3 hours!
We are raising money to help some of the sickest adult medical patients in Blantyre's Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital - through the UK-based Malawian healthcare charity MAHECAS. In particular, we are trying to ensure that the Oxygen machines are kept maintained & in working order, as well as revitalising old machines that simply need spare parts (see photos).
(Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the MAHECAS charity. So it’s probably the most efficient way to donate if you are from the UK.)
