Covid and civil war has hit the students we support in Azezo, Ethiopia hard. School lessons, exams and university terms have been postponed. Inflation has drastically increased the cost of living, with food, transport, educational materials and other basic essentials becoming very expensive.
For those of our students at university, this is making life very difficult and means that they study with financial worries in the background. Meanwhile, the support we give to those of our students still at school becomes ever more important as education places an increasing strain on family finances. Without our help, some of the poorest students run the risk of dropping out of school.
We are increasing the support we give to ensure that we continue to make a difference in these challenging times. On top of this, we continue to work with St Raphel's school for blind and partially sighted children to make sure that those children that they look after receive the best possible care.
