Story

Imagine... Walking in the soaring heat, over 1,000 miles, in search of water to quench your thirst?

Imagine... Walking through deserts and barren lands, for over10 days with no food and no knowledge of its arrival?

Imagine... trekking through the intense heat with over 10 members of your family in the fear of encountering lawless bandits looting you and the real possibility some of you might die on the way?

For a lot of people in East Africa, this is not imagination!

Just think about the distress caused by the UK riots and multiply this by 1,000 to understand a fraction of the impact of the crisis taking place in East Africa.
We feel helpless to do anything but we can ALL help!
How?
Your dear friends Ruhana and Muna who you know to be pampered princesses, always seeking comfort and loving to eat, have decided to set themselves the challenge of feeling a fraction of this situation in a bid to help.
On August 20, 2011, we will, voluntarily, complete a 10 mile walk from Oxford Circus to Southall in London's summer heat. And we will do this with NO food or WATER as we will be fasting.
Ruhana will don her Super Ru capes and costume in a bid to raise awareness and Muna will be bucket collecting the entire walk. For those of you know us well - the challenge of co-ordinating ourselves, map reading and getting to the final line will be a triumph in itself inshaAllah!
Help us get to the end with your kind donations. We need to raise £3000 to help.
Why are we doing this?

The famine in East Africa has affected over 12.4 million people; most of which are women and children! So whilst we choose to abstain from eating and drinking whilst embarking on this walk or in Ramadan, the sad reality is that for many from the Horn of Africa this is everyday life.

We are fundraising so that the mothers and children don’t
have to walk hours on end to seek food and water and instead they have access to help closer to their home.
All funds raised will be donated to the African Development Trust that has been working in Somalia for the many years and has established offices in the heart of Mogadishu. 100% of the money these brave ladies raise will go straight to those affected.
