Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I am off to India over the New Year's holiday period, taking part in Bike4Life 2008, to help raise funds for FOCUS. The challenge is to ride from Mumbai to Goa which is 550 km (342 miles) over 6 days... that's over 90 km a day! The roads are going to be tricky and journey will certainly be tough... so I would really appreciate your support in helping to raise funds for the charity. I will be paying for my own costs so all your sponsorship will go to FOCUS.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: FUNDACAO FOCUS ASSISTENCIA HUMANITARIA EUROPE gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
Focus Humanitarian Assistance is an international group of agencies established in Europe, North America and South Asia to complement the provision of emergency relief, principally in the developing world. It helps people in need reduce their dependance on humanitarian aid and facilitates their transition to sustainable, long term development.
FOCUS is an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network ( www.akdn.org). Underlying the establishment of Focus by the Ismaili Muslim community is a history of successful initiatives to assist people struck by natural and man-made disasters in South and Central Asia and Africa.
You might be interested to know that as part of a collaboration with AKDN in response to the tsunami of 2004, FOCUS has started to implement a programme to enhance the state of disaster resilience and preparedness among affected coastal communities. The programme aims to strenghthen the capacities of communities, local self governing councils and district goverments to prepare, mitigate, prevent and respond to natural and man-made disaters; reduce vulnerabilty from health and hygiene risks; establish linkages with key stakeholders and disseminate knowledge and best practices while enhancing gender equality in the programme area.
