Leeds Cancer Centre, part of the Leeds Cares family, diagnoses and treats cancer for the people of Leeds and the Yorkshire region. It is one of the largest cancer centres in the UK and provide some of the most up-to-date treatment, care and support for people with cancer.

Story

Hey Guys,

Welcome to my just giving page.

The paediatric team at St James Hospital in Leeds have been working on a project to build a dedicated chillout space/waiting area within the radiotherapy department for teenagers and young adults that are receiving treatment for cancer.

There is currently a childrens area which has a playroom for our patients but is mainly designed towards younger children and many of the patients feel out place in this space, especially since the rest of the radiotherapy department is a very adult orientated environment.

A dedicated teenage area would provide our patients with a relaxing, comfortable place to wait for their treatment. They would be able to watch TV, Play video game, us the internet or just meet with other patients of the same age whilst they wait to be called for their radiotherapy treatment.

Working as a radiotherapist in this department I feel this project is close to my heart as I can empathize with how these younger patients may feel. I therefore felt that I wanted to do something to help this great cause.

There are a number of ways to fundraise for such good causes but I felt that I wanted to do something that apart from being close to my heart would be very challenging and take me out of my comfort zone. I therefore decided to take part in Pink Collar Boxing.

This challenge involves 8 weeks of training of which at the end I will take part in the Pink Collar boxing Event where I will be required to fight against another female person training for this event.

I believe this challenge will be a life changing experience. As well as keeping me fit, I will be able to raise money for a great project which in turn will be very rewarding.

Being the busy bee I am, a lot of my time and efforts are required to take part in this event and to be able to raise money towards the project. I would be grateful for any sponsorship towards this great cause and also to make this scary experience worthwhile.
