A Brief Summary of the Challenge.

Each week we (Dominik Betner & Scott Malhan) will be doing the Murph Challenge to both raise money and awareness for Help For Heroes, a charity supporting UK Veterans.

The challenge consists of doing a 1 mile run, 100, pull-ups, 200 push-ups and 300 squats, followed by another 1 mile run.

While the main purpose of this is to help out Veterans struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope to use this fundraiser as an opportunity to

to keep ourselves in check and motivated to stay in shape and look after our health while at the same time helping to support others.

At the same time, we want to motivate and inspire others to look after their health - whether it’s just going out for a walk each day or doing some home workouts.

We both realise just how much of a toll this pandemic has had on the mental and physical health of everyone, especially wounded veterans, service personnel and their families.

Who Are We and Why Are We Doing This.

My name is Dominik Betner and back in late 2019, me and a friend decided to take on the challenge of doing 12 half marathons in 2020 to raise money for charity.

Soon after completing the first two runs, COVID19 hit and it became clear that there was going to be a lot of people in need of support as time went on.

Later in the year, my friend Scott Malhan decided to join the fundraiser to help us complete it.

And by the end of it we ended up raising over £1,100.

As the year came or an end, it became clear that there is more or be done so me and Scott have teamed up to do our bit and help out Veterans in the UK.

Why We Chose To Support Veterans Amidst The COVID-19 Pandemic.

COVID-19 has without a doubt impacted everyone in one way or another.

Back in May 2020, Help for Heroes surveyed wounded veterans, service personnel and their families to assess how the pandemic is affecting them.

The survey revealed a 50% increase in those saying they are not managing their mental health well compared to before the pandemic started and a 48% increase in those not managing their physical health.

The unavoidable delay to NHS services has been costly with nearly two-thirds of those affected (64%) saying the delay in accessing NHS treatment and services impacted negatively on their mental health and more than half (59%) said it negatively affected their physical health. Furthermore, 34% said they were concerned about being able to access the NHS once the pandemic eases.

Those numbers are likely to have increased since then and with how things are still going, they are sure to continue increasing.

We believe that this is a very important cause to support, especially as the military has been a big part of Scott's and his families life, and we are honoured to do our bit to support wounded veterans, service personnel and their families.
