Story
One woman in four will experience domestic violence at some point in her lifetime and two women are killed each week in England and Wales by a current or former partner. Refuge supports around 6,000 women & children on any given day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.By kindly sponsoring me today you are helping to save and change the lives of thousands of women and children escaping domestic violence.Thank you.
During COVID-19 lockdown, the phrase 'stay home, stay safe' unfortunately doesn't mean in the comfort and safety of your home for everyone. For some people it can be terrifying as it increases their vulnerability to domestic violence. We want to support the incredible work that Refuge does to support women, children and men escaping domestic abuse.
We are fortunate enough to have 26 family members of cousins, aunties and uncles all healthy and able to be apart of this. Each individual has ran a distance of 1 mile around their own garden/living space to achieve a family marathon. We are so happy to see the effort everyone put in to it by getting dressed up in costume, creating a spectator atmosphere and filming our events to create one big relay marathon.
In these difficult times, we are lucky to feel safe at home and we can make the most of that by staying positive and doing what we can to support others.
