Story
This Wednesday 23rd July, my brother and I, along with four friends, are cycling the length of mainland Britain, from John O'Groats in Scotland to Land's End in Cornwall - that's just shy of 900 miles. We plan to arrive at Land's End on Saturday 2nd August, which will mean cycling an average of 85 miles a day (...gulp!).
Why are we doing this? Well... We're raising money for a cause particularly close to our hearts. Our sister, Jade, has down's syndrome. The money we raise will go towards an ambitious housing project where Jade could one day live a happy, semi-independent life. This housing accommodation, which is yet to be built, is called The JPK Project. It will be a very special place where up to 24 people with learning difficulties could live and work, and a further 100 people with dissabilites would be able to access for training and work experience each week. There will be an onsite Bakery, Cafe and Shop. You can learn more about it here.
I'm pleased to say that at the moment Jade leads a happy and fulfilling life, but I do worry about the future... There's a limit to how long Jade can continue to be at college and as my parents get older they won't be able to look after her in the same way. The JPK Project would provide Jade with a wonderful future and give her more independence, a social life and employment, for the rest of her life.
