SPONSORED WALK · 19 October 2014 ·

We moved into our wonderful new college premises in 2016 and we continue to fund raise to ensure that we continue to provide a high quality learning environment for our community.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Well, well.  I managed to complete the walk even if it was not in any record breaking time - not even for the slowest 5 mile walk. But I had to stop for lunch!  Fortunately, my lovely wife, Jane, accompanied me, but I nearly drove her to distraction by stopping every 30 - 40 yards (or should that be metres?) to take a photograph!  105 images in all.  Mostly of the theatres and landmarks that we passed on the way, plus a few of the wonderful support staff who recorded our reaching the checkpoints and directed us on the correct route.  We were very lucky with the weather as well.  Bright and sunny with scudding clouds.  The weather also brought out the whole population of London and the South-East, it seemed at times!!!

If you have been generous enough to support me with your donation, many, many, many grateful thanks.  If you haven't donated yet, and feel inspired by my epic efforts (!!!!!) please feel free to do so.  Apparently the Justgiving site is open until 19th January next year.  Alternatively, cash and/or cheques are equally acceptable.

I have worked with the Music Service in Bexley for nearly 30 years.  I started in March 1985 under Malcolm Fletcher who was Music Adviser for Bexley London Borough and also lead the Bexley Music Centre as it was then called.  The Music Centre was the redesignated The Bexley Academy for Music and Performing Arts, and most of the activities there continued seamlessly.  Dance had been introduced and the scope of activities widened.  Unfortunately financial difficulties forced the Academy to close for a while, but several of us continued to run our activities at begged, borrowed and stolen alternative accommodation.  Bird College had been operating in the Borough for many years and undertook to incorporate the Music Service into itself.  The College now offered Theatre Arts, Dance and Music and supports the Music Service throughout the London Borough of Bexley, continuing the  long-standing tradition of providing opportunities for Music to the children (and adults) of Bexley and its surrounding area.  The new accommodation will enable the whole Service to the Arts to be consolidated under one roof and allow the continuation of excellence in Music and Arts provision in Bexley.
