Mus: I first visited Palestine nearly twenty years ago. I was struck by the incredible warmth and rich heritage of the Palestinian people. But deeply disturbed by Israel's racist and violent military occupation and especially its impact on children. Education provided to Palestinian children and youth have been critically undermined due to decades of occupation, measures of control, recurring military attacks, settler violence, and weak national due processes. 

Yas: I have never run anything near a half marathon but I am SO inspired and honoured to do so for the Ajyal Foundation for Education. Every aspect of a Palestinian child's life is impacted by Israel's violent occupation and their access to and enjoyment of education is no different. Many Palestinian children live with deep trauma which impedes their ability to learn, and the Ajyal Foundation provides much needed psychological, social and educational support to these children so they can learn, grow and achieve their full potential.

Important stats on Palestinian children's education & what your money can buy

By the age of 15 nearly 25% of boys and 7% of girls drop out of school (UNCIEF, 2018). Only 52.7% of children aged 7-14 demonstrate foundational reading skills (UNICEF, 2021). 31% of high school students fail their GCSE equivalent exams (Palsawa, 2019). 90% of children living in Gaza have been diagnosed with PTSD since the military attack of May 2021 (EuroMedMonitor, 2021).
