Memory Walk 2018
Campaign by Alzheimer's Society (RCN 296645)
This year over 110,000 people walk united, against dementia. We aim, with your help to raise over £9 million to help anyone affected by dementia.

Story

Well here we are again folks ! .Those of you who were so generous in supporting our cause last year will already know our reasons for taking part in The Memory Walk but for those who do not know our story this is it.

My wonderful dad Colin was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer in 2015 and only a few months later we had the diagnosis of both Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's. This was made all the harder as we lost both my Grandad and my Uncle to Dementia. It is a cruel disease which not only impacts on the person suffering with it but also on the family as a whole. My parents have been married for over 55 year's now and were looking forward to the time they retired and could do all the things they wanted to do such as their love for travel. Sadly this was cut short but their love is amazing and I am proud to be their daughter.

It has been a very hard 3 years and dad has deteriorated quite dramatically over this period. To watch someone whom you love and who, up until then, had been a very active and well man struggle with even the most basic things is devastating.

Dad has already had two stays in hospital since February of this year and is now vertually housebound having to rely on us to take him in a  wheelchair  ( which he hates!) just to get out and about.

We had a fantastic day last year and raised a staggering £1300. I would love to think that we could top that amount this year and raise even more money to help towards funding research into this complex disease.

Any amount however small will be so gratefully received. Thank you so much.😄😄😄

Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that's the equivalent to one person every three minutes. This September and October Memory Walks will be taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to raise money for a world without dementia. Arm in arm, step by step and pound by pound, we will get there. Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society. So it's the most efficient way to raise money – saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Please dig deep and help us walk for a world without dementia.
