Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year, that's the equivalent to one person every three minutes.
This year, events across the country, and the world were cancelled, as was the programme I run with my colleague's at Alzheimer's Society, Memory Walk.
For the last 7 years, my Mam Julie has walked at every North East event I've ran, and we didn't want this year to be any different. With your support, my Mam has raised THOUSANDS for this charity, in memory of the amazing Grace Salkeld. So on Sat 17th Oct, rain or shine, we'll pop on our t-shirts and head out to remember Gracie.
I keep imagining, if Gran was here now, and still in the care home, how devastated we would both be at not being able to visit her throughout COVID-19. People with dementia are one of the most vulnerable groups to Coronavirus, and them and their families need our support the most. Even if you can give just £5, we could help support people who are even further isolated due to the current restrictions, allowing for our Dementia Advisors to provide telephone support to people affected by this terrible disease.
