Story

As a keen reader it's hard to imagine what it must be like to not enjoy reading.  It's also hard to imagine what it must be like to have difficulty learning to read and spell, how this can affect everyday life as well as accessing the curriculum at school, sitting exams, applying for and meeting the demands of a job, supporting children with their homework or simply reading children a bedtime story.

The Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity aims to support children and adults in all of these areas, regardless of their financial situation.  Our bursary fund is central in our ability to do this.  In the current situation our fundraising has been hard hit, with events cancelled and a big reduction in income.  That is why I would like to try and support the charity in any small way I can.  As a primary school teacher and as a dyslexia assessor, I have seen first hand the difference that this charity can make to the lives of so many individuals and families.

So, I am going to do 6.2 miles for 26 consecutive days.  I'm planning to run the majority of those days and may cycle the occasional few, so that my 'team-mate', 9 year old daughter Alice, can join me in the challenge whilst we also comply with lockdown restrictions.

I appreciate that these are hard times for everyone and would like to say a huge thank you for any donation that you may be able to make.

with thanks,

Sara
