The 2.6 Challenge is a simple and fun way for everyone to do their bit to help save the UKs charities.

Story

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect with the cancellation of thousands of sporting events and the loss of billions in income through fundraising events.

The Virgin Money London Marathon alone, which should have taken place on Sunday 26 April, is the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event, which raised more than £66.4 million for thousands of charities in 2019.

Many of these charities have had to reduce or stop services at a time when vulnerable members of society need them most; thousands of staff have been placed on furlough and many charities will not survive the next few months.

We got our heads together with the Walney Wind Cheetah Cubs and decided to take part in the 2.6 Challenge to raise some money for a local charity which is very close to our hearts at the same time.

What does it entail?

Members of our Walney Wind Cheetah Cubs family running club are taking part in a virtual team relay on Sunday 26th April - The day when many of our members were due to be taking part in the Virgin Money London Marathon. Each Team will be running with members of their family who live in the same household only as part of their daily exercise and adhering to the social distancing guidelines set by the government. Each team will walk, jog, run, scoot or skip 2.6km and then virtually pass the baton on to the next team. Only 1 team will be out running at a time. Team 2 only starts when Team 1 are finished and so on. We have chosen to raise money for St Mary’s Hospice - A charity close to all of our hearts.

St Mary’s Hospice provides care and comfort for patients living with any life-shortening illness or long term condition and their family. They support people from the moment of diagnosis and their families for longer.

Please give what you can and show some support for our amazing children and their families who are supporting this fantastic local charity.

Thank you.
