Story
In May I will be running 475 miles for Mind. That is an
average of 15 miles a day. More than a
half marathon. Every day. For a month.
I am doing this to raise awareness of the terrifying
statistic that on average 475 people will take their own life in England and
Wales each month. 75% of whom are males just like me. I thought long and hard
about how many people have been impacted by each of those deaths.
It is my absolute passion to make a sustained and endured
difference on this scary reality. To do this I have created a fundraising
campaign that allows people to invest into Mind, a charity who are already
implementing change. Additionally, I want the #MY475 challenge to become an
annual event where awareness is continually raised.
The way I deliver this is very important to me. I want this
to be a prolonged campaign that generates a real shift. While I do not have all
the answers, I believe a combination of passion to create change and previous
experiences of what mental health can do is a good place to start. With a
collective campaign I believe it possible to ignite a flame of imagination for those
who are suffering – showing they are not and should not be alone.
Alongside giving, for which I am so grateful feel free to
get in touch if you’d like to run a leg with me or jump on a zoom: tell the
world your story, how you have made yourself more resilient and how we can all
make a dent on the terrifying number of people lost each month.
