ENDING POVERTY, TOGETHER The world is hungry, but the emptiness goes far beyond the table. The need is physical and spiritual. People hunger for opportunity, starve for resources, and have been stripped of value. These injustices keep us up at night. Food for the Hungry UK is a registered charity that seeks to end all forms of human poverty by going to the hard places and walking with the world’s most vulnerable people.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We have teamed up with Food for the Hungry - a charity working in Uganda - and 9 folk from York.  We are going to Uganda this summer to help build a simple health centre in Kyoga, a village with no healthcare of any sort at the moment nearer than 15km away.  When finished next summer, the government will staff it.  It's part of a plan to build a network of centres so noone has to walk more than 7km to reach one.

Food for the Hungry has supported a 10 year plan for Kyoga and the York group has been part of it for the last 4 years during which they have helped the villagers to extend their school.  Two blocks of teachers accommodation has been built plus 4 additional classrooms over this period.  They have been out for 3 weeks each summer, with the building work led by Keith Blanshard, who recently retired as General Manager at Yorkon, part of Shepherd Group.

We're all doing a sponsored walk on 16th April as one of a series of events to raise money for the building materials, expected to cost £16k.  We're funding our own travel.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s a very efficient and safe way to donate.

Please do dig deep and support us so we can dig good foundations in Kyoga!

NB Please ignore the Women of Action label - it's a former page belonging to Food for the Hungry that we have borrowed!
