ENDING POVERTY, TOGETHER The world is hungry, but the emptiness goes far beyond the table. The need is physical and spiritual. People hunger for opportunity, starve for resources, and have been stripped of value. These injustices keep us up at night. Food for the Hungry UK is a registered charity that seeks to end all forms of human poverty by going to the hard places and walking with the world’s most vulnerable people.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Jo, Liz, Dom, Phil and I have teamed up with a group from York and the charity Food for the Hungry to help the local villagers in Kyoga, Uganda, build a health centre.

It will take 2 summers of work, and the first is in July / August 2011.  The others have been working in Kyoga for the last 4 years, during which time they have helped to extend the village school by adding 2 teachers' accommodation blocks and 2 classrooms.

The Ugandan government has a strategy for building health centres - which are the only means of health provision - so that people don't have to walk more than 7km.  Currently the nearest to Kyoga is 15km.  When built, the government will staff it, but they cannot afford the construction.

We are doing various sponsored events, including a walk on 16th April - but in truth we're simply asking for contributions towards the local purchase of the building materials - total cost £16k over 2 years.  We're paying our own travel costs, so anything you give will go straight towards the new health centre.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

You may wonder what the Women for Action means - it's the team name for a previous Food for the Hungry fund raising - we've re-used their page for simplicity - consider it recycling!

So please dig deep and thank you for your support.
