Mission Statement : Enabling communities by educating children and empowering women. Our Aim : Blossom Trust is a UK registered charity (no. 1145318) created in 2012. The trust started with an aim to help disadvantaged children, and has since expanded their projects into Education, Mental Health, Empowering Women, Children Care, Agricultural Support and Covid Support to achieve this objective. The Trust’s main objective is to support underprivileged undergraduate students to continue and complete their education, as many students abandon their education due to their lack of funds for their upkeep. We at Blossom Trust strongly believe that female empowerment is the seed from which one can develop a nurturing, thriving community for the future generation. Most of the disadvantaged families are headed by widowed women who are currently living in extreme poverty and malnutrition. The Trust reviews each beneficiary’s requirement with their physical and mental abilities and provides carefully monitored, tailor made, support to improve their quality of life by allowing them to gain regular income and reduce their dependency on others. By strengthening and sustaining their own household income, they will have an increased opportunity to lead a more independent family life. How we differ from others : The running cost of our charity is borne by the trustees and, which helps us to ensure all the funds collected are used towards our projects.

Story

Hi,

I will be participating in 5 km charity run in Richmond Park on Sunday 17th Sep 2023 in support of UK registered charity Blossom Trust (no. 1145318). Blossom Trust was  formed in 2012 with the  primary objective to empower women affected by the civil war and provide financial support to underprivileged students to fulfil their educational needs in their chosen profession.

Over the years Trust expanded its support by building community wells to support  agriculture helping local communities to be self-sufficient, providing day care facilities for physically challenged children in Mullaitivu district and have supported well over 1500 families during Covid,  providing basic provision to the remote villages of Srilanka.

Graduate Financial Support Scheme: Blossom Trust initiated its graduate support scheme in 2014, establishing connections with the welfare services of Jaffna University and the Student's Union of Eastern University. Candidates are selected through a rigorous process conducted by university registers and approved by Blossom Trust's trustees. Since its inception, the number of students supported by Blossom Trust has steadily increased. Currently, Blossom Trust supports a total of 129 students, including 70 from University of Jaffna(50 at Jaffna premises and 20 at Faculty of Engineering, Killinochi premises) and 59 from Eastern University.  These students pursue various disciplines ranging from Management, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering, Agriculture, Law, Arts, Commerce and Science.

The full detail of their graduate financial support scheme can be found in this link.
