It is estimated that 2 in every 5 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer. All of us know someone who has battled cancer and whose lives have been significantly impacted by it.  

For those living in rural communities, sometimes hours away from the nearest treatment centre and support resources, cancer can be an expensive and isolating diagnosis.

Each donation made to the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre helps provide local support to those living with cancer, and their caregivers. It provides the self esteem that comes with receiving a custom wig after chemo. It provides the feeling of belonging that comes with joining a support group or exercise class. It provides the physical relief that comes with a massage while in treatment. It provides the peace of mind that comes with not worrying if the cost of gas to get to treatment or enrollment in an experimental life-saving therapy will come at the expense of other essential needs. Each donation provides an opportunity bring a bit of normalcy into the lives of those battling the illness now or who will in the future.

I am riding for all those impacted past, present, and future by cancer.  On a personal level I will be keeping close in my thoughts my mother, who twice battled cancer; our friend Peter who lost his battle February 2022; our friend Sandra who lost her battle March 2021; and our friend Jean who lost her battle Aug 2021.  I will also be honoring a friend who lives in the Georgian Bay area, who recently completed his cancer treatments over a very challenging year. Wishing him, and all those who are continuing the fight, the very best outcomes on this incredibly difficult journey.
