naomi's marathon for prostate cancer

Edinburgh Marathon Festival Full Marathon 2019 · 26 May 2019 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2017 my Dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He had no symptoms.
The only reason he discovered the cancer was down to his curious nature and fascination with technology. Dad is forever buying gadgets. He has Amazon Alexas coming out of his ears, a robotic hoover, an electric bike and for reasons still unbeknown to me he wears two watches. So, an at-home DNA test kit was just an extension of his curiosity. The results showed that he was three times more likely to develop prostate cancer than the average male. So off Dad went to his GP to get his PSA level (prostate health indicator) checked.
In the end Dad hadn't caught the prostate cancer in time for it not to have spread. He underwent a radical prostectomy but the cancer cells have spread to somewhere else in his body.
Dad will now live with prostate cancer for the rest of his life and the aim is to manage the cancer so that it grows as slowly as possible.
I've always viewed my Dad as Super Man so it came as a real shock. I refuse to believe there's anything actually wrong with him most of the time, but deep down I know that it is still there, lurking.
It equally baffles and scares me that my Dad has had no symptoms whatsoever. Still now, apart from his response to the drugs that he has taken, he has had no symptoms.
1 in 8 men will suffer from Prostate cancer. I'd be so grateful if you could donate a few pennies to this amazing cause and help increase awareness.
Thank you x
