Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
Let me tell you about the Coatbridge Foodbank and why we should support such a precious organisation in our community.
Over the last 12 months the foodbank assisted:
1389 Adults, 924 Children and 338 pets (Jan-Dec 2016)
It's distributed 20.312 tonnes of food
It's incredibly sad in this day and age we have foodbanks, but we do, therefore it is important to understand; why we have them, who visits them and how we can support them!
Most UK food banks are hosted by churches in partnership with the wider community. They operate on the"frontline" model, giving out food directly to the hungry.
Since 2010, demand for foodbanks in general has continued to increase at a more rapid rate, partly as austerity began to take effect, and partly as those on low incomes began to draw upon any savings.
Who uses the foodbank?
Users require to be referred by a public body i.e. social work, health visitors, job centres, housing offices. People are forced to use the bank when; there has been a delays in the benefits due to sanctions or general bureaucratic issues, people in low-paid work, on zero hour contracts, those trying to make debt repayments and other expenses. We are ALL vulnerable to financial crisis. It could happen to anyone.
How is it Funded?
Most food banks are hosted by churches in partnership with the wider community. Over 90% of food is donated by the public, schools, churches, businesses and individuals.
The Coatbridge foodbank's operating costs alone are a staggering £1000 per month.
The team of volunteers, which operates under Charity regulations (OSCR SC035639), carry out the most amazing self less work, in order to support the people in desperate situations. Evidence of increasing community spirit, love and care.
Lets all support them too! Please donate! xx Every penny I raise will go towards supporting adults, children and pets in need! xx
